Combination of Traditional Hanfu and Western Elements 2020
When Hanfu has been widely used, ordinary Hanfu can no longer meet the needs of Hanfu enthusiasts. Therefore, there is a fashion trend of combining traditional Hanfu with Western elements in China. What is the mix and match of “Oriental” and “western” style? This is what we call the “Chinese and Western” style. Just like the improvement of cheongsam, it combines the modern elements of western style with the classical elegance of Chinese style. Hanfu and Western Accessories In our traditional concept, Hanfu always seems to be matched with accessories such as round fans, hairpins and embroidered shoes, while the brand-new western style starts with some small accessories. The change of some small accessories will not destroy the original national style of Hanfu to a great extent, but also make the whole match full of freshness. For example: 1) Small HatFirst of all, the most iconic small hat in western style is used to replace the hairpin with Hanfu. The whole style instantly adds a trace of French style. With the addition of a small top hat, the formal Hanfu suddenly has a sense of small western style. However, in order to improve the fit, it is suggested that we… -
Brief History of Cloud-Shoulder (Yunjian)
Brief history describing the purpose of yunjian, history, and changes overtime between modern period and past. I've been doing some researches into differnt styles of hanfu worn in various Dynasties and what they look like. I came upon Ming Dynasty and the description of yunjian being one of the clothing that's is often worn by the citizens. I find them interesting and decided to share them here as a brief history to leanring how yunjian came to be. What is yunjian? Yunjian (云肩), also known as a shawl (披肩) is a type of clothing decoration that developed after the Sui Dynasty. It is mainly made from materials such as silk and satin brocade, taking on shapes such as clouds or having clouds embroidered onto a cloth. Its purpose when first integrated into everyday wear isn't simply just for decorations. But with time and as the popularity of yunjian rose in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it gradually became a part that added depth to what is being worn, like pendants or necklaces - and added decorations to the overall looks. If laid out on a flat surface, yunjian's shape is quite similar to a donut. Only the part facing… -

Hanfu Accessory Yunjian Making Tutorials
Introduction Yunjian (云肩), is considered to be one of hanfu's accessories. It is often matched with Ming Dynasty clothing, such as long tops (长袄) and folded skirts, known as mǎ miàn qún (马面裙). Those interested in hanfus might be interested in making their own, including yunjian. But, when it comes to making yunjian, there have been little videos that give the full process of making it from scratch. There are, however, kits that can be bought and you just have to attach the pieces. Or, you can just buy the finished product from stores that sell it to match your hanfu set. The reason that there haven’t been many tutorials for yunjian making could be because of the complicated embroidery techniques that are used. Despite yunjian being something small, the intricate designs can require long hours just on sewing itself. If you have a sewing machine, it’ll fasten your pace on the designs, making it much easier for you to do the DIY process. I’ve looked through videos and articles showing steps of yunjian making and I’ll group them here for anyone interested. The steps may be rough, but you’ll get the overall idea of what’s occurring to get the… -
