Materials needed:
Solid glue, craft knife, scissors, ruler, pencil
Colored paper / origami (if you want to be more particular, you can prepare some iridescent paper)
1. Choose the color scheme for the clothes. If you are confident in your aesthetic sense, you can choose the colors yourself. If not, you can refer to ancient paintings or the color schemes of authentic Hanfu found online.
2. Start with the upper garment. Cut a square piece of paper,
9.5 cm in length (why 9.5? Because this ratio produces a better effect).
3. Fold the square paper twice,
with the lighter side facing outwards, which helps to hide the cutting lines.
4. Draw the solid lines on the original paper according to the sizes marked on the white paper (enlarged view). Note: The top left corner must be the intersection of the two folds; don't get it wrong.
5. Cut out the shape of the upper garment along the outermost solid line.
6. This is the final cut result,
the sleeve style can be adjusted according to your preference.
7. On the unfolded pattern, randomly choose one side as the front opening and cut it open.
8. Fold the chosen side and cut out a triangle as shown in the picture.
9. Pay attention! This is the most “technically demanding” step —— attaching the lapel. According to the slope of the already cut triangle (from the previous step), cut out two half pieces of material for the lapel. The width should be slightly longer than half of the original upper garment to facilitate pasting… (If not clear, please refer to the picture).
The final effect is like real wearable clothing that can be opened~
10. Start making the collar! Don't make it too wide or too narrow. The width here is estimated to be about 0.5 cm. After cutting, stick it on with solid glue.
11. Start making the lower skirt… Some people say it doesn't require much technical skill, but others indeed find it difficult to fold those fine pleats, so it still tests your patience~ Start folding!
12. First, fold the paper in half, then fold parallel lines 0.5 cm wide along the middle crease, making a total width of 1 cm for the center part of the lower skirt. Then fold outward from these lines, like a fan, ensuring each fold is visible… Refer to the pictures…
13. The waist of the lower skirt should be slightly wider than the bottom of the upper garment's front opening, so it can cover the upper garment. The bottom of the lower skirt should be wider than the waist and have a slight curve.
14. Make the waistband for the lower skirt. Use double-layer paper to wrap around the lower skirt and stick it together. Then cut a narrower strip of another color to use as a belt and stick it below the waist (as shown in the picture).
15. Finally, connect the two parts! Mission accomplished!!
