The 2020 “Liyi Huaxia (礼衣华夏)” Hanfu Model Contest lasted for more than 4 months, covering 76 cities in five regions, with 468 Hanfu associations and more than 6,200 contestants actively participating. The aim of the competition was to recreate the splendor of Chinese costumes and promote Chinese etiquette through the visible, wearable, and popular carrier of Hanfu. After three rounds of competition, 80 finalists from various regions were selected and the top 10 were born in Xuzhou.
Xuzhou, located in Jiangsu province, has many historical and cultural treasures such as the Han tomb of Guishan, the mausoleum of the King of Gefengtai, and the Chinese pictorial stone, etc. In recent years, Xuzhou is committed to the inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture, transforms and develops creatively the symbols of Chinese culture such as Hanfu, Han rituals, Han music, and Han dance.
The culture of Hanfu is gradually integrating into the life of ordinary people and is closely related to the cultural construction of the city. It is for this reason that the final of this popular national competition is held in Xuzhou.
The finals are divided into three rounds: grooming, self-selected style, and stochastic expressivity.
In the first round, 80 contestants wore the same costume and mask, and the indistinguishable make-up hid their individual faces. The judges gave scores for the players' gait, form, manners, and other professional qualities.
In the “Optional” section, the contestants choose their own style of makeup and display, be handsome and competent, or elegant and dynamic, or grand and dignified. The “Han Costume Supermodels”, are transformed into beautiful women with delicate dresses, graceful dancers, famous scholars, valiant chivalrous heroes.
After the first two rounds of competition, the top 40 contestants will enter the final duel “Stochastic Expressivity”. The finalists were randomly assigned a set of unfamiliar or even inappropriate clothes by drawing lots on the spot, which tested their ability to perform different styles of Hanfu in good condition as professional models. The contestants showed their individual styles and characteristics by incorporating elements of dance, martial arts, and drama, which won the applause of the audience.
At 9:00 p.m., after the intense daytime competition, the top 10 Hanfu model was selected, and No. 28, No. 80, and No. 47 won the first, second, and third place places.
The event also brought together a variety of Xuzhou's unique products and non-heritage items, attracting the Hanfu model from all over the country.
Costumes of different styles and colors from different times shuttle through the event. If it were not for the mobile phones and beverage bottles in these modern products, it would feel as if they had traveled back in time and were in the middle of it.
